Notification of Opening - Parish of Seaforth

The Diocese of Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island

The Parish of Seaforth

The bishop of Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island is searching for a rector for the Parish of Seaforth. This is a full time position.

The Parish of Seaforth consists of five Anglican churches, in one parish, all united by the vision of creating and sustaining Christ-centered, mission-minded and ministering communities of faith.

The parish is located on Nova Scotia’s beautiful Eastern Shore and is an easy commute to Dartmouth and Halifax.

The parish stretches from Lake Echo to the small fishing village of East Chezzetcook and includes the village of Seaforth.  The rectory sits close to the water in the community of Porters Lake, at the centre of the parish, with deeded access to the lake.  Porters Lake is a growing community on the shore of a large fresh water lake that provides excellent recreational opportunities.

St. James in Seaforth, St. Barnabas at Head Chezzetcook, Christ Church in Lower East Chezzetcook, St. Mark’s in Porters Lake and St. Augustine’s in Lake Echo are the five churches that make up the parish. St. James and Christ Church were established more than two centuries ago while St. Augustine’s was built in 1983. The congregations of these churches are as diverse as their histories.

The parish ministries are varied, ranging from Sunday School, Bible Study, the men’s breakfast, readers, Eucharistic ministers, to wardens and five management commissions. There is an Associate Parish Priest in the parish who works in a non-stipendiary capacity. The work of the parish enhances their communities through charitable works and events such as suppers, Dinner Theatre and coffee and conversation.

The parish is seeking a creative, inspiring and compassionate leader who is an active listener and a confident decision maker.  The ideal candidate would be an engaging speaker with the strength to successfully lead the parish through significant change.
